The Canadian Council for the Americas AB invites you to join us for our Que Pasa in Mexico program. The program is part of the Que Pasa in Latin America Series Program which is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to have first-hand information and key contacts from strategic Latin American markets. For 2020, CCA Alberta is broadening the QUE PASA series program to include Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina, which have been identified as strategic markets to strengthen business opportunities for Canadian companies interested in exploring and expanding their businesses in Latin America.

The Que Pasa in Mexico program on February 20, 2020 in Calgary is an opportunity for Alberta companies to have an update on what is happening in Mexico in terms of business opportunities and challenges in the country. Our guest panelists will provide a depth perspective on their experiences working in the Mexican market.

Some of the overall outcomes of the Que Pasa in Latin America Series include - Identify potential business opportunities for Canadian companies to expand their products, services and expertise to Latin American markets. - Generate leads and get information about potential opportunities to export and commercialize Albertan products and technologies in Latin American markets. - Identify potential businesses counterparts in Latin America. - Support programs and services to address information related to constraints on trade, access to capital, and provides timely and relevant information to support business development and investment attraction.

Carlos Solorzano, Partner, SMPS Legal

Carlos is licensed lawyer in Mexico, residing in Calgary. He specializes in oil and gas, project financing and real estate. His practice focuses primarily on finance advising for projects such as commercial, residential and mixed-use developments, negotiation and development of strategic alliances and joint ventures, real estate and oil and gas. Carlos has also represented numerous clients in dispute resolution matters. Before SMPS, Carlos founded SOLORZANO CORPORATION and served for several years at a top tier Canadian law firm assisting several clients on successfully establishing their businesses in Mexico. Carlos also worked for Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Consulate in Calgary being responsible of Mexico-Alberta economic affairs and providing potential investors with guidelines for conducting business. Before moving to Canada in 2002, Carlos practiced law with top tier law firms in Mexico representing Mexican and non-Mexican clients. Carlos obtained his degree in Law from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in 1998. He participated in the Private, Public Partnerships Course and the Private Equity Transactions Course of Osgoode Law School, York University, in the years of 2006 and 2007, respectively, and the Alternative Dispute Resolutions Course in Alberta, Canada, in the year 2007.

Carlos has extensive experience in sector specific audit services, mergers and acquisitions, negotiation and implementation of joint ventures and strategic alliances, mainly for the oil and gas sector, as well as real estate transactions involving commercial, residential and mixed-use developments. Carlos is a member of the Mexican Bar Association and of the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce, in Mexico City. Carlos is fluent in English and Spanish.

Cesar Vera, Chief Commercial Officer at Naviera Integral, Mexico.

Mr. Cesar Vera has 30 years of international experience in the oil & gas sector working for world class organizations including Schlumberger, Nabors, GE and Siemens. He is a very versatile professional with a diverse expertise across services related to both offshore and onshore well drilling and well production such as drilling fluids, cementing, downhole tools, waste management, stimulation, coiled tubing, pressure control, drilling rigs and vessel management. Cesar holds a Master’s in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mr. Vera is fluent in English and Spanish. He is a well-recognized public speaker and his articles and interviews have been notably published.

Daniel Linkser, Regional Director México, Central America and The Caribbean, Control Risks

Daniel Linkser currently manages Control Risks' Mexico City office, overseeing the delivery of solutions and services to clients in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Daniel specialises in developing, leading and implementing tailored and integral solutions for clients to manage complex issues across the Americas, with a special emphasis on risk management for large projects in the extractives, energy and infrastructure, complex reputational and compliance issues.

David Enríquez, Partner, Goodrich, Riquelme y Asociados

David has more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas / energy sector, and is a partner at Mexico-focused law firm Goodrich, Riquelme y Asociados. His clients include IOCs, NOCs, independent oil & gas operators, marine contractors / offshore shipping corporations, midstream operators, petrol retailers, energy traders, prime EPC contractors, energy generators, private equity firms and international financial institutions.
